Sending mail using Office 365

How do you know if your mail is in the cloud? Of course you can ask your IT department, but you could also try if you can access your mail through https://outlook.office.com. If that works, it’s in the cloud and you can use the settings below. If not, ask your IT department about the connection details to the local SMTP server.

Cloud settings for AutoSQL

If you host your email in the cloud with Microsoft, you need to connect AutoSQL to it to be able to send mail. I regularly get questions on the settings. These should be as follows:

  • Server: smtp.office365.com
  • Port:587
  • Use SSL: Yes, enabled
  • User: Your email address
  • Password: Your email password

So your AutoSQL configuration should look like:

Be aware that with sending emails, your ‘From’ address should always be your own email address. Otherwise you get the error ‘Client does not have permissions to send as this sender’:
